Our demonstration garden is planted!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by on Saturday to help start our demonstration garden. We got quite a bit accomplished. In all, the 12 apple bins (4'x4') were divided into 16 square areas using string, and then seeds or starter plants were planted into each square according to its required spacing. Everything was watered adequately and then all of our pepper and tomato plants were covered with a reemay garden blanket for protection from chilly nights.
We now have broccoli, cabbage, onions, spinach, many root vegetables, peas, leafy greens, peppers, tomatoes, and much more germinating or settling its roots in our humble apple bin containers south of the Community Action building!
Some spinach, mesclun mix, and bok choy was planted about a month ago, and so far 9 lbs of leafy greens have been distributed at the food bank along with some salad seeds. It's not much for now, but it's a great start!

At the event, a handout was given with the various volunteer positions available with Food For All. It is available in the Documents section if anyone is interested. More detailed descriptions are available upon request.

Garden Planting Party this Saturday!

Hey Everyone! Don't forget to stop by our Garden Planting Party outside of Community Action this Saturday around 1 to get our garden started. We have our garden plan figured out and are getting our plant starts today. Saturday will be a fun day of learning and planting. In case you didn't know, it's in apple bins that are full of very fluffy soil.. so there isn't really any labor involved during the party, just the fun stuff.
See you there hopefully!
